Long-Distance Movers With Clear Route-Based Planning
Western Moving & Storage handles household, apartment, office and specialty long-distance moves from the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley to destinations across British Columbia, Alberta and the United States.
Instead of relying on a weight-only estimate, we review what you are actually moving, the truck space required, the route, access and timing. That gives you a move plan built around the real inventory.

Long-Distance Pricing Based on the Real Move
Long-distance moving is not the same as hourly local moving. We normally build a flat-rate quote from the inventory, truck space, route and service requirements so the price is tied to the actual move.
Pickup & Destination
The route matters. A Lower Mainland-to-Calgary move is planned differently from Vancouver Island, Prince George or a US destination.
Inventory & Truck Space
We review the items you are moving and the space they require rather than depending only on an estimated shipment weight.
Consolidated or Dedicated
Smaller flexible moves may fit a consolidated route. Larger or time-sensitive moves may be better suited to a dedicated truck.
Access at Both Homes
Stairs, elevators, long carries, difficult parking and remote access can affect the equipment and labour plan.
Timing & Storage
Delivery windows, possession dates and storage between closing dates can all be planned before pickup.
Specialty Services
Packing, piano moving, pool tables, heavy items and other specialty pieces are reviewed separately so the crew can prepare properly.
We Quote the Items and Space — Not Just a Guess at Weight
For smaller moves, photos or video are often enough to build the inventory. For larger moves, an in-person review can make the quote more accurate. If the inventory changes before moving day, tell us so the quote can be updated before the truck arrives.
Start With the Route, Then Add the Move Details
Choose the corridor and approximate move size. Then add the details that can change the plan. The result is a planning starting point, not a locked quote.

- Normal building access
- Flexible pickup and delivery window
2 Bedroom • Fuller Inventory • Tight Timing

Two Different Ways to Plan a Long-Distance Move
Not every shipment needs the same truck strategy. Understanding the difference helps customers compare service, timing and truck space.
Consolidated Moving
Your shipment travels on a scheduled long-distance route with other compatible shipments. This can be useful when the inventory is smaller and the dates are flexible.
- Useful for one item, apartments and smaller inventories
- You use only part of the available truck space
- Pickup and delivery windows may need more flexibility
- Route availability matters
Dedicated / Full Truck Load
A truck is planned around your move rather than combining the shipment with multiple customers. This can be useful for larger households, tighter timing or moves requiring more control over truck space.
- Useful for larger homes and larger inventories
- More direct control of the truck allocation
- Better fit for some tighter delivery schedules
- BC → USA service is full-truck-load only

Questions Customers Ask Before Booking
How do you calculate a long-distance moving price?
We normally build a flat-rate quote around the items being moved, the truck space required, the pickup and destination route, access, timing and requested services. We do not rely only on a shipment-weight estimate.
What is the difference between consolidated and dedicated moving?
Consolidated moving combines compatible shipments on a scheduled route and can work well for smaller or more flexible moves. Dedicated service plans a truck around one move and can be better for larger inventories or tighter timing.
How long does a BC to Alberta move take?
Many BC–Alberta moves can be delivered in roughly 2–3 days depending on move size, route and scheduling. Your actual pickup and delivery window is confirmed with the quote.
Can you move just one item long distance?
Yes. One-item and small-shipment moves can be reviewed for a scheduled consolidated route when the destination and timing fit.
Can you store my belongings between possession dates?
Yes. Storage can be added when your pickup date and new-home possession date do not line up.
Do you move to Vancouver Island?
Yes. We handle Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley moves to and from Vancouver Island. Ferry logistics and route timing are considered when the move is planned.
Do you move from BC to the United States?
Yes. BC-to-USA moves are handled as full truck load service. Visit our cross-border moving page for the route-specific process.
Do you provide packing and furniture protection?
Yes. Furniture protection, moving blankets, shrink wrap, straps and basic moving equipment are used as appropriate. Full or partial household packing can also be added.
What happens if I add items after receiving my quote?
Send the additional inventory before moving day. Because long-distance pricing is tied to the items and truck space, added inventory can change the quote.
